Multicultural Experience My identified family My Nuclear family consists of my mother, my father, my little brother and I. While this is my nuclear family, my external family has played a crucial part in my development. Growing up, I have always counted on an extensive family system during some stressful situations. This is one of the reasons why when my family had to separate to come to the United States, I was able to cope with the transition gracefully. This experience provided my family with the tools to cope with adversity. The experience of being separated from my family has provided the circumstances to test how I deal with stressful situations. More importantly, it gave me hope for positive outcomes even in the face of adversity.†¦show more content†¦Having a strong family system in the Dominican Republic was a resource that helped us through the years my family was separated. We were able to find coping skills that allowed us to develop in what I consider a positive way in spite of very re al stress. Xenotransplantation originate from Greek â€Å"xenos-† meaning â€Å"foreign†. It is the transplant or use of live nonhuman animal cells, tissues and organs in humans or between different species. A similar approach is called allotransplantation which is the same procedure, just within the same species. These cells and organs can be implanted or enclosed in a device that is used outside the body (ex vivo perfusion). Xenotransplantation can help human beings suffering from organ failure to save lives. Every day between ten and eighteen people die while being on a waiting list for an organ transplant, and the development of the technology that deals with xenotransplantation could possibly contribute to creating a decline in the number of people suffering from organ failure. Xenotransplantation was attempted unsuccessfully in the beginning of the 20th century with the use of tissues or organs from animals such as pigs, goats, lambs or monkeys. In 1963, Dr. Thomas Starzl transplanted kidneys from baboons into six human recipients in Denver, US. The patients survived between 19 to 98 days. In the year of 1984 a baby named Stephanie Fae Beauclair was born, better known as Baby Fae. She was suffering from hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) and she became the first infant subject of a xenotransplant procedure. The first words in Bible are, â€Å"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth† (Genesis 1:1, English Standard Version). This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this verse mean God created the universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it possibly mean this was a non-literal text that leaves room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution and Creationism have been battling over this issue for many years. What must be realized before examining these two theories is the fact that both require faith. Requiring faith means neither can be proven right completely. These two theories bring to light the literal and non-literal reading of Genesis 1 and 2. Creationism believes in the literal interpretation of the text, and evolution, specifically theistic evolution, believes in non-literal interpretation. The literal interpretation states God created everything in six days just as it states which leaves little wiggle room for the no n-literal interpretation. However, there is some scientific reasoning and fact that can reinforce their system of thinking.
